Whilst last week’s Weekend Gaming Doodah wasn’t what you could (reasonably) call a resounding success, thanks to Pine717 and Particlebit (cheers guys) it wasn’t an abject failure either, so I’ma take another crack at it. And yes, I *am* sticking with that title ….
Huzzah – the weekend, it be here again, all bright and shiny and full of potential Gaming goodness. The drudgery and monotony of the real world can safely be put to one side – albeit fairly briefly – and we’re free to dive into whatever Gaming world we wish to explore unencumbered by, like, work and shit. In your face, The Man!
Anyways, how’s your Gaming weekend shaping up? What are you hoping to play, blog about, or otherwise engage with? Are you thinking of splashing out on a new game, but wondering if it’s worth it, or something you’d enjoy? Is there anything you’ve played recently and would like to recommend to fellow Gaming enthusiasts? Is there something you’d just like to get off your chest?
If so, I figure with us all being Gamers and whatnot, this might be a pretty good place for exactly that kind of thing. So, like, have at it folks, fill your boots, knock yourself out, be all you can be.
OK, that last one didn’t really work, but you see what I’m getting at. Join in guys, the floor’s all yours……

For my part, I’ve got some actual stuff to do this weekend (boo!) but I shall be fitting in some Uncharted 3 when I can. I’ve been sucked back into Drake’s world quite spectacularly, and I’ve basically played through the remastered collection in one go. That’s not been great for this place (hence the absence of posts this week) but it has been a lot of fun. So, you know, swings and roundabouts….
Following Pine717’s comment on last week’s WGD, and after finding and reading Hundstrasse’s review, I did also pick up a copy of the Resident Evil Origins Collection, so I’ll be taking a crack at that when I finally manage to leave the Uncharted Universe. I also accidentally picked up a copy of Just Cause 3, so that might get given a bit of attention too (I prob’ly should’ve asked before I bought it, but has anybody else played it? Is it any good?).
In terms of blogging, I’ll be checking out Gaming blogs and sites in order to find and collate some interesting and/or cool things for Monday’s Procrastination whatsit, and I probably should write something (quote-unquote) “original”, but there’s a fair chance that it’ll have to be something to do with Uncharted.
Because, like, addicted, innit!?

Uncharted 3 is fairly short, so I’d prioritize that and get it beat. Then you’ll be ready for 4 coming out soon.

Yeah, I figured I should play them all again now before the next one comes out. I’m not that far off finishing 3, so I should be able to wrap it up this weekend. Then on to the zombies and whatnot….

Also I chuckled at “accidentally” buying Just Cause 3. I know I enjoyed Just Cause 2.

Yeah, they had a video of it playing in the store, and I sort of got a bit seduced. So my fingers picked it up even though my brain was screaming ‘What are you doing numbnuts, you’re only supposed to be getting Resident Evil?!’ and my back was screaming ‘we’re seriously not spending another night on the couch for this shit, dude!’.
Whoops!

Just Cause 3 is exactly Just Cause 2. If you liked Just Cause 2 and want more of that, then you’ll like Just Cause 3. There’s nothing that’s radically different in the new game, except for a squirrel suit that makes flying around the map more fun.
Those games always come off to me as these giant oceans that are only an inch deep. The open-world in JC3 is HUGE, just like JC2. The map is mindbogglingly large. But you basically perform the same few mission types across the entire game, and it feels repetitive after a while. However, I did get 10 hours through it (so says Steam) before I went back to Fallout 4, so its not like I wasn’t having fun during the time I was digging it.

I didn’t actually play Just Cause 2, but I heard it was pretty good fun, and I figured this one might be worth trying (it was the flying suit thingy in the video (see my reply to Particlebit) that probably sealed the deal). I know what you’re saying about the inch deep thing (and I’m totally nicking that line at some point, BTW ;)), but that might be something of a blessing in disguise right now – particularly if it’s something I can dip in and out of (without getting totally addicted to it).
It strikes me as being a lot like Far Cry 4(?), and that was basically the same 4 or 5 things over and over again, but because I was playing through it here and there, it never felt as repetitive as it would’ve if I was doing it all in one go – if you see what I mean!?

I totally know what you mean. It is definitely a game that is probably more worthwhile playing it in bursts. In fact talking about it here has made me kind of want to pick it up again where I left off.

I have a similar dilemma in having multiple games to choose from. I bought Final Fantasy Tactics on Vita during the Square sale, but then I had a recent urge to go back and complete Ni No Kuni on PS3. And then Hearthstone quests to throw on top of that PLUS an urge to buy and play The Witness. I don’t know exactly what will happen.

I’m currently managing to resist buying The Witness, but I’ll probably cave at some point soon.
But yeah, my ‘to play’ pile seems to be getting bigger, which isn’t the worst problem to have, admittedly, but I do seem to be having a tougher time choosing lately. I’ll probably do the RE stuff next, and then try and figure out a way of deciding what comes next. I’ve got Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture, and I want to review that here, so that might have to take priority.

I’ve tried to just focus on small short games to try and cut through the backlog but i have those long RPGs just calling my name. So hard to choose.

I’m basically in the same position, and my RPG-type pile (which includes The Witcher 3 and Dragon Age: Inquisition, amongst others) is being put on hold in favour of smaller, quicker games, or decidedly more linear ones at least.
I haven’t even started Fallout 4 again yet, because I know everything will take a back seat to that, so I’m just trying to fit in as much as I can before my resistance snaps.

It’s going to be really cold here over the weekend (especially Saturday) and combined with having a tiring week at work, I may very well not go out at all, so I guess I’ll be playing a lot of games. I came home today from work and right away slept for like 7 hours, so I guess I’ll be up a long time tonight! I finished Rise of the Tomb Raider a few days ago, and I think I’m at most a few hours away from finishing The Witness, so I’ll have to find something new to play. Maybe Resident Evil 0, maybe Firewatch. Or maybe I’ll just sleep through the whole thing. I was interested in playing XCOM2, but I’m now on the fence about it since I hear it performs incredibly terribly on even high-end PCs.

See, I feel bad now because we just had a five day weekend and it’s 30+ degrees Celsius here. If it makes you feel better though, I got sunburned yesterday doing some DIY, so, you know, there’s that. 😉
Anyway, I hope you have a relaxing weekend. Also, both Particlebit and I have expressed interest in The Witness, and I know you mentioned it briefly last week, but would you say it was worth spending cash-money on it now, or is it something that could easily wait until a sale or price drop!? It looks pretty interesting, and I definitely want to give it a try at some point, but I need to be a bit ruthless with my time right now, so I should probably only go for new games if they’re full-on classics/unmissable etc, etc.

It’s hard to say about The Witness since it is priced a good bit higher than most other puzzle games out there, and honestly everything goes on sale pretty fast these days. The game is far more focused on puzzle-solving than Braid was, and so far nothing about the story has really been explicit. The story is conveyed mostly via implications as you explore the environment of the island. So if your more interested in story than puzzles, I would say hold off.
There are *a lot* of puzzles in this game. And it looks to me like there are a ton of secrets as well. There are certain areas I can tell are hiding something that I haven’t seen yet. It’s the kind of game where you can beat it without having come close to 100%ing it. I kind of want to figure out all these secrets before I beat the game, but at the same time I’m afraid it’ll take forever to do that. So I wouldn’t say its not worth the money, because there is a lot of content here. But again, you know, everything goes on sale pretty fast these days, so if you don’t think you have the time for it, there’s no point in not holding off until you can get it for cheaper. Definitely it is a game that I think everyone should try at some point though.

Cheers, that really helps. If there’s a lot of (addictive) content, and it’s likely to take a while to cover anything close to all of it, I’ll probably just add it to my wish list and keep an eye out for it dropping in price.
I’ll definitely play it at some point though!
