Ok, if you’re one of the two or three people who read this place you may’ve noticed I’ve not, like, posted anything for a while. For that I apologise – I had a friend visiting for a bit, and he didn’t seem too keen on just sitting inside and watching me play video games having forked out for a plane ticket to Brazil and whatnot. Some people, eh!?
Anyways, having fallen out of the habit of writing I was genuinely struggling for ideas and inspiration when, lo and behold, I was nominated for this by Particlebit, which was incredibly fortuitous and rather superb timing – so many thanks for that. I’m a big fan of his place anyways, so this was quite the honour.
For those of you who don’t know what the Liebster Award is, it’s basically not an award at all (booo!), but rather a little som’thin-som’thin to connect and promote the blogging community (Yaaaay!) – think something between chain letter and pay it forward. As such, if you’re nominated you’ll need to answer the questions the person who nominated you asked, then think of your own set, then nominate some other blogs/bloggers who you feel deserve a shout-out to answer your questions. Simples, right!?
So, here are the questions I was asked (along with my answers, obviously!):
Favorite video game console?
A nice easy one to start with then, eh!? I don’t even know where to begin choosing, because I’ve owned a lot of the buggers. I have a real soft spot for the Sega Master System (because it was my first), a lot of love for the Gamecube, have spent most cumulative time playing on the Xbox 360, but I think I’ma have to go with the PS4 here. Sure, it’s not the most inventive or original answer, but the PS4 has really been a great console for me, and all the Next Gen shenanigans – and some genuinely brilliant titles – have reignited my love of the medium.
Favorite game on LEAST favorite console?
I’m not quite sure what my least favourite console is either, but it’s possible it was actually the PS1, given I only had a handful of games for it, and given it was already starting to look a bit dated when I got it towards the end of its cycle. That said though, my friend/housemate and I used to play the shit out of the original Tony Hawk’s game(s), and we freakin’ loved it. Back when the t’internet (and guides etc) weren’t as prevalent, finding hidden tapes and whatnot was pretty much a full-time job, and we’d frequently spend all night trying to nail one thing or another (then call in sick the next day and try again).
What was the last movie you saw in theaters?
Deadpool. A few days later was puppy day zero, so I haven’t been since.
Who is your favorite Pokemon?
Erm, there’s really no way of answering this without revealing how old I am. I missed Pokemon by a few years, and my only exposure to them was when my friend and I (the one who just visited, and who I played Tony Hawk’s to death with, funnily enough) used to babysit his kid brother, and he’d yammer on at us for hours about them. I can only remember Pikachu, so I’ma have to say him by default.
Why did you start blogging?
I used to write for another gaming blog, but that sort of died on its arse when people got too busy with work and stuff, so I figured I’d take a crack at doing my own. Being six thousand miles away from my family and friends, I had a bit of time on my hands, so it seemed like a good way of, like, fending off boredom and insanity. That said though, I think it’s fair to say I didn’t quite think it through properly, and it’s not been as easy as I thought it would be, but hey… What can you do!?
How long have you been blogging?
About 9(ish) months, I think.
How big is your gaming backlog at the moment?
Massive. Like, motherfucking huuuuuge. Across all platforms, and including PS+/Xbox Live stuff I’ve downloaded, I’m rapidly approaching triple digits.
What are you doing when aren’t playing a game or working?
As I just mentioned, at some point I thought it was a good idea to get a Puppy, so most of the last four months have been spent training, playing with and/or stopping her from eating every damn thing. I used to read loads, so I still like to do that when I can. I also like drinking pina coladas and getting caught in the rain, obviously.
What is one interesting, unique fact about yourself most people don’t know?
Not sure if it’s interesting, but I once Rugby tackled (what turned out to be) a “plain-clothed” Police Officer and totally got away with it. Long story short, my friend happened to fit the description of an APB, and we found ourselves being chased down a dark alley by a big dude shouting ‘Stop, Police Officer…’ (Yeah, right mate, whatever…). When it became clear he was faster than us, and with lactic acid doing funny things to my brain, I figured it’d be a great idea to turn and tackle him instead. Needless to say, I came off (a lot) worse, so that, plus the fact we clearly weren’t the guys they were after meant I just got a lecture about respecting authority and not, say, a criminal record for assaulting the Po-Po.
Eat pizza with your hands or with a fork?
Hands. I think using a knife and fork is wrong on so many levels, but….if I’m eating it at a restaurant, I’ll inevitably succumb to society’s rules and begrudgingly use cutlery. God damn you “etiquette”, God damn you all to hell. *shakes fist at “The Man”*
Ok, my questions:
If you could have one superpower, what would it be?
Most overrated video game you’ve played?
Most underrated video game you’ve played?
If you could have any job/career in the world, what would you choose?
Who’s your favorite Villain (book, game, TV or film)?
Tea or coffee?
Favorite joke?
Favorite album of all time?
If you could only eat one food/meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?
What’s the best advice you’d give to anybody who’s thinking of starting a blog and/or is just starting out, and/or might be struggling with it all (asking for a friend!)?
As for my nominations, I’ma choose blogs/bloggers I find interesting, humorous, and/or whose output I very much enjoy reading (and discounting those I know have been nominated already). For the most part, they’re also people who have got involved in this place, and their Comments, Likes and whatnot have meant a lot (and have definitely helped me in not just sacking this blogging malarkey right off). Admittedly, making you do extra work’s not necessarily the best Thank You in the world, but still…… Them’s the breaks, folks! Anyway, my nominations are:
Murr/Geek, Sleep, Rinse, Repeat
Karl Weller/Game, Complain, Repeat
If you’ve already been nominated (or if you just can’t be arsed), I’m pretty sure there’s no curse or nuffink for not doing it, so feel free to ignore this/me. If you do take a crack, have fun….

Thanks for the nomination 🙂 I think I’ll have to have a think… tough questions! I’ve really enjoyed these Liebster awards; but I’m going to struggle to find people who havn’t been nominated yet! …

Yeah, I was quite lucky in that most of my choices hadn’t been nominated yet (that I could see), but there’s definitely a point where the circle closes in on itself (or whatever the best way of describing that is!?).
And you’re welcome. I look forward to reading your answers whenever they’re ready!

Wow, thank you for thinking of me!
It’s neat to learn a little more about you. I really enjoy reading your posts and hope you find some more time in the future to write. Good luck with your puppy too.
Looks like I have a project to work on as soon as I finish my next piece.

You’re welcome – like I said, it seemed like a good opportunity to nominate people who have shown an interest in this place, and I’ve really enjoyed reading your stuff too.
And thanks – the Puppy’s just about where she needs to be right now, so hopefully that’ll allow me to get back to playing/writing on a regular basis – although the flip side of that is that I can’t use her as an excuse when I’m just too lazy now. 😉

My own post will be up in a few hours. I figure that you’d like to take a look once it posts.
Also, puppies are perfectly valid excuses to get distracted.

Sweet – looking forward to reading it (and feel free to post a link here)!
And I agree about the Puppy – although I’ve found other people aren’t as forgiving. I mean honestly, you forget to buy a birthday present for your girlfriend once……. 😉

Really enjoyed reading this! That interesting fact was quite interesting – can’t say I know too many people that have intentionally tackled a cop and didn’t get thrown away for it. Glad to help reinvigorate your blogging and hope to see you put out more awesome posts!

For legal reasons, I must clarify that I in no way condone the Rugby tackling of any law enforcement officers, and that my actions were both foolish and reckless…. 😉

Holy crap, how embarrassing! I mean…thank you for the nomination! But really, how much do I suck for missing it weeks ago! Okay, going to stop typing exclamation points. I promise to respond in kind sometime soon.
Thank you again!

You’re welcome – and it’s my fault really. I prob’ly should’ve given my nominees a heads-up, but I thought that might be a bit like ‘oi, do this extra assignment that exactly none of you asked for’, so I bottled it in the end.
