Weekend Gaming Doodah #3

It’s nearly the weekend again, and once more we get to say to work ‘not today, work, not today‘, and we get to say to our fantabulous game-playing machines ‘yes today, fantabulous game-playing machines, yes today‘. Whole virtual worlds lay open at our feet, ready for some quality time to be invested in them, calling out our names; a siren-song of untold beauty and irresistible power. “Come to me….” she sings, her voice hauntingly drifting on the very edge of the wind, “….and let us fuck some shit up!“.

That last bit might just be me (I’m finally starting Just Cause 3, and there seems to be a degree of emphasis on ‘fucking shit up’) but whatever she’s calling to you, it’s likely to be a sweet, sweet song regardless. Continue reading “Weekend Gaming Doodah #3”

Monday Morning Procrastination Pack #2

I’m not entirely sure what happened with this weekend, but it’s gone already. I mean, it was here – full of promise, free of work – but then it fucked the fuck off, leaving us wholly at the mercy of Monday morning. That’s a next level dick move right there, weekend – not cool at all. Fear not though, fellow Gamers, for I have once again put together a little bug-out bag of essentials to help us survive the Monday-pocalypse (see what I did there?): a condensed package of interesting and/or funny things that might help make your day that bit more survivable, and/or just generally offer up a big old ‘go fuck yourself!’ to that Monday morning feeling. Monday Morning Procrastination Pack

Even though it’s Carnaval here in Brazil (so I’m not even halfway through my 5 day weekend), I’m going to – out of the goodness of my heart, because that’s the kind of guy I am, etc, etc – provide you with a little bug-out bag of gaming essentials to help you survive the drudgery of the dreaded Monday. Rather than containing, say, bottled water, those silver blanket things, or a crossbow, this particular bug-out bag contains, like, words. Lots and lots of words. What I’m going to do – basically – is give you a little collection of Gaming-related stuff for you to surreptitiously read at work, in class, on your commute; essentially anywhere you choose where you feel it might alleviate the grimness that is Monday. The QTX New Year’s Honours List, 2016

As a general rule, I’m quite a cynical bastard, and there’s not much in this big, wide world of ours that I can’t find fault with. I even think dolphins are a bunch of dicks – and all the cutesy clicking and shit’s just to distract us while they plot our downfall. Games are mostly an exception to this (mostly – pay to win can get fucked, for example) but actually, in a rare moment of genuine positivity, I’ve found the Gaming Blogging Community to be a rich, rewarding place full of surprises and joy.

In that spirit, and because it’s New Year, I thought I’d do a little New Year’s Honours list-ey thing, Continue reading “The QTX New Year’s Honours List, 2016”

Games I’m Looking Forward To In 2016 (Part One)

Having just scraped a stunningly original ‘Best Games of 2015‘ piece from the bottom of the blogging barrel, I figured I’d go for the full house with an equally iconoclastic ‘What to look forward to in 2016’ post too. There are currently several million of these on the Internet – all better written, funnier, and more widely read than this one ever will be – but I’m going to tip the balance in my favour by swearing a fuck-load. So, you know, swings and roundabouts….. Continue reading “Games I’m Looking Forward To In 2016 (Part One)”

Rise of the Tomb Raider – First Impressions

As I’ve said before, one of the highlights of my first year of next-gen gaming was the Tomb Raider reboot, and that, coupled with the ever-so-brief go I had on this one prior to release, made Rise of the Tomb Raider one of my most eagerly anticipated releases of Silly Season. I had every reason to expect good things from this installment, and particularly because I’d very much gotten the impression that this one would feature more of the Tomb-ey/Puzzle-y stuff that I loved about the earlier Tomb Raider games, whilst still maintaining the strong narrative arc of the 2013 release. Continue reading “Rise of the Tomb Raider – First Impressions”

Fallout 4 – First Impressions

If my last two forays into the Fallout Universe are anything to go by, it’s likely that it’ll be another couple of hundred hours before I “finish” Fallout 4, so I figured it’d perhaps behoove me to do a series of ‘my journey so far’ type pieces in the meantime. This is the first, I guess, but it’s also a ‘First Impressions‘ piece, so I’ll limit this one to the immediately obvious stuff, but with a bit of the ‘sense of occasion’ thrown in for good measure. Think of me as a modern day Herodotus, if you will; not only being witness to history as it happens, but, like, writing that shit down too. Continue reading “Fallout 4 – First Impressions”

In Which Fate Punches Me in the Nads. Repeatedly.

Soooooo, as I’ve said before, many, many times; tomorrow, Tuesday 10th November 2015, is quite possibly going to be the best day in the history of the world, ever. I mean, some other stuff has happened on some other days – some guy cured Polio at one point, for example, and there was all the Moon-ey type shananigans and such, but crucially, cruciallyon no other day in History did Fallout 4 come out, and in no other cycle of 24 hours did Fallout 4 and Rise of the Tomb Raider come out at the same time. That’s a fact – and you can check it if you want. Continue reading “In Which Fate Punches Me in the Nads. Repeatedly.”

Silly Season: My Experience So Far!

They say hindsight’s 20/20, and it’s a maxim I’ve been thinking a lot about lately, particularly because I’m an idiot who decided to start a gaming blog just as Silly Season touched down with all the force of a category bajillion tornado. Would I do the same again? Has it been worth it, especially given nobody’s reading any of my stuff? Is sleep actually overrated, or are my lack of it, and these hallucinations I seem to be frequently having related in some way? Indeed, why would a pink elephant want to hide my controller and headphones anyway? Continue reading “Silly Season: My Experience So Far!”
